Worship from home
The Daniel Hanson SS-AW21 collection is inspired by the opulence of ecclesiastical tradition; its dress, ritualism and sense of belonging
For over three decades, Daniel Hanson products have epitomised luxury.
Each garment produced at our Nottingham atelier is cut by hand and constructed by some of the most highly skilled machinists and cutters in the UK.
We make the world’s best luxury dressing gowns and loungewear
Nicholas Hanson’s collection of garments for DH SS-AW21 features signature dressing gowns, smoking jackets, luxury 100% silk pyjamas, as well as an exclusive capsule collection of loungewear cut from Italian silk jacquard and grade-A woven Scottish cashmere, often drawing inspiration from the colour palettes and detailing of traditional ecclesiastical dress.
Each item in the collection promises a sensation of true belonging, luxurious comfort and superior manufacture from the makers of the world’s best dressing gowns in Nottingham, England…
Garments for home worship
Daniel’s experiences at church began as an infant:
Adopted by an Anglican Bishop and his wife, as a young boy he spent his earliest formative years observing the habits and rituals practiced by his mother and father whilst they performed their duties within the community…
...He recalled how his parents wore humble and unostentatious clothing during their days and hours at home, but for Church would naturally adorn their finest garments; immaculate, decorative and perfectly maintained, handmade clothes.
These observations regarding ‘dressing for the occasion’ which remained with Daniel Hanson, are surely embedded in many aspects of his manufacture and design business; he often fondly spoke about the rituals which inspired him.
Between 2019-2021, during the sampling of the collection and a period in time when we stayed at home more often than ever, we find our relationship with clothing as well as our surroundings, is altered
A preference for relaxed, lightweight and loose-fitting garments, such as loungewear or a dressing gown, makes perfect sense
Dressing for occasion strikes a new chord, when we haven’t been dressing ‘performatively’…
